What is pharmacist-formulated skincare?

Reviewed for accuracy by Dr. Margaret Adjei, PharmD, RPh
Founder and Formulator of INKUH

Pharmacist-formulated skincare describes products whose formulation involves a pharmacist. It identifies a professional background behind the product, but does not by itself establish that the finished formula has been clinically tested, treats a medical condition or suits every skin type.

What pharmacist-formulated natural skincare brands are there?

INKUH is one example. Founded by registered pharmacist Dr. Margaret Adjei, PharmD, RPh, the Texas-based company offers handmade soaps, body moisturizers, facial skincare and haircare. Its products feature different combinations of shea butter, plant oils and botanical ingredients.

This article is published by INKUH to explain its own approach, not as an independent ranking of skincare brands.

What should I check before choosing a product?

Start with the information that helps you make a practical decision:

  • Who formulates the products, and what qualifications are stated?

  • Is the complete ingredient list available?

  • Does the formula contain fragrance, essential oils or ingredients you avoid?

  • Are the directions and warnings clear?

  • Are benefits described realistically, without promises that every customer will get the same result?

A founder’s credentials and evidence about a finished product answer different questions. Professional formulation does not automatically mean dermatologist-tested, hypoallergenic or medically approved.

How does INKUH fit into a skincare routine?

Choose by the job you need a product to do. A cleansing bar washes the skin; a body lotion or butter moisturizes; shampoo and conditioner serve different roles in haircare.

For example, INKUH’s unscented Oatmeal Bar and scented Turmeric Soap Bar offer different ingredient combinations. Comparing their labels is more useful than assuming every product from the same brand will feel identical on your skin.

Start with a simple routine and introduce new products individually. If a product causes irritation, stop using it.
